The Aplin Center embodies Texas A&M’s next era of innovation – an ambitious, experience-driven academic hub designed to bring hospitality, retail, and food science education to life through real, hands-on learning. The new facility invites students, industry partners, and visitors into an environment where education is transparent, engaged, and fully immersive.
At 211,724-square-feet and three stories, the Aplin Center will be the most comprehensive experiential learning facility of its kind in the country. DLR Group, in partnership with Pickard Chilton, has shaped a building centered on connection – inviting the public into retail and culinary labs at the ground floor, while stacking collaborative classrooms, VR sensory learning spaces, and student-driven enterprise zones above. Seventeen academic and industry programs – from fermentation science and dairy production to viticulture, floral design, and climate-controlled agriculture – operate visibly and dynamically throughout the building, creating continuous opportunities for discovery, interaction, and industry-ready skill building.
Constructed with locally sourced mass timber, the Aplin Center reflects a commitment to performance, and long-term stewardship. Mercer Mass Timber is supplying 2,216 m³ of Southern Yellow Pine cross-laminated timber and 1,667 m³ of glulam, delivering the structural warmth, span efficiency, and architectural presence that define the building’s character. This robust timber package will be sourced from Texas sawmills, creating a naturally welcoming environment that elevates student experience and public engagement.
